How to Use Different Face Massaging Tools

At-home treatments with facial massage tools are one of the best ways to shift your skin from the inside out, creating beautifully sculpted results. You don’t need to be a professional to own facial massage tools, you just need to know how to use them properly and to find the tools that work best for your face. In the below video, I’m going over a selection of face massage tools and how they work so that you can incorporate them into your regular at-home beauty routine.

Rose quartz and jade rollers are two of the most popular when it comes to face massage tools. They’re safe, gentle, and easy to use on your face and neck. The act of rolling stimulates the lymphatic system, which can aid in detoxifying and better circulation of the skin tissue. These tools are also very relaxing and can be used in most settings. My preferred way to use these types of rollers is over a face mask in an upward and outward direction, using light to medium pressure. I also like pulling these straight from the freezer and gently rolling around the eye area to de-puff and relieve stress.

Uplifting beauty rollers are another very easy tool to use and boost circulation and blood flow. They’re usually made or embedded with tourmaline stones to stimulate acupressure points for healing. You want to roll primarily in a single upward direction along your neck, cheeks, jawline, and forehead, using light to medium pressure. You may notice a little bit of red or pink comes to the surface of your skin from the blood circulation, which will benefit your complexion.

Gua sha is my favorite beauty and self-care ritual for numerous reasons. It’s one of the most effective ways to promote healthier functioning of your skin from the inside out. It is also one of the top ways to lift, sculpt, and awaken the muscles and skin of your neck and face. It can be a bit more complicated than the other tools, but when performed correctly and regularly, the results are life-changing.

Gua sha pieces come in all different shapes, sizes, and materials. When working with the neck and face, I always prefer to use a tool made from real stone or crystal. You want to become familiar with your stone and what all the angles are made for. I believe the shape and quality of the tool make all the difference in your results. I always start my routine by opening the neck and then working my way up to the hairline of my forehead. Use a light to medium pressure, and when gliding over lymph areas, use more of a feather-like pressure. Hold your stone in a flat position, gliding upward and outward for most areas. Always remember to relax, move slowly, and breathe with gua sha.

Alternating and gently practicing with different facial massage tools can be a great way to switch up your routine and get to know your skin better. Using massage tools at home can save you some money from having to go to spas, as long as you take care of your tools by keeping them clean and store them carefully so they do not break. And, of course, it’s important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during, and after any type of facial massage with or without tools.
